Weight Loss Pill

By Ron Kehoe Why is it that everyone is looking for the easy way out. One of the latest fads is a weight loss pill. What happened to self-control, exercise and sensible eating. Next, I suppose we will need a pill to gain weight, a pill to Make us taller, or shorter, or more beautiful. In fact a pill for everything we want. We live in a world of instant gratification. Why am I against a weight loss pill, or most pills, for that matter? Well, for one thing I believe that any pill, or drug, that interferes With nature must, inherently have some side effects, maybe even serious side effects. Just read the notes that come with many drugs and check the side effects. Often These seem worse than the original problem. For Gods sake what is wrong with having some measure of self-control, of taking responsibility for our own actions. Many overweight and obese people who may take a weight loss pill will, no doubt, stuff themselves with even more fast foods, biscuits, sweets, coke, beer and pizzas. They may think Oh! Ill just pop another weight loss pill and Ill be OK . Next time you go to the supermarket just check out the shopping trolleys of overweight people. Ill guarantee they are loaded with fast foods, convenient packaged foods, beer, cokes, ice creams, doughnuts etc. The trolley will probably be packed to the brim or over flowing. Isnt it about time we got back to good old fashioned values? Isnt it time we ate sensibly and for good health? Isnt it time we got off our backsides and did some exercise? Isnt it time to be responsible for ourselves, for our health and well being? Isnt it time we learned to say NO to the easy way out? A weight loss pill may have some advantages for those people, who through no fault of their own, have an inherent weight problem. For most peopleforget about a weight loss pill. After all it was your lack of self-control that caused you to be overweight. Shouldnt you do something to lose weigh, get fit and healthy.. Not a weight loss pill. Workplace Bully

By Edward Lewis Facts Workplace bullying is also known as “workplace harassment” or “mobbing”. Tim Field of bullyonline.org defines workplace bullying as a “persistent, unwelcome, intrusive behavior of one or more individuals whose actions prevent others from fulfilling their duties.” Workplace bullying is repeatedly attacking someone verbally or physically with the intent of causing hurt, humiliation, belittlement, isolation and discrimination. Sexual harassment and racial, gender, disability, and age discrimination are also forms of workplace bullying. The bully can be an employer, peer, subordinate, or even client or supplier. The typical bully uses aggression and violence to compensate for overwhelming feelings of inadequacy. Some bullies suffer from mental health disorders (such as the Narcissistic, Paranoid and Antisocial personality disorders). Most bullies lack self-discipline, the ability to pursue long-term goals, or to work in a team. According to the United Kingdom (UK) National Workplace Bullying Advice Line, bullies feel entitled to special treatment, seek attention, lack empathy, are rageful and envious, exploit and then discard their co-workers, and are consummate liars. In other words, bullies are emotionally immature and are exploitative control freaks. Bullying is a traumatic, stressful experience that often results in the mental breakdown and otherwise ill-health of the victim. Physical and mental health problems, fatigue, low functioning, and even suicide are common. The victims can no longer be productive at work and are sometimes forced to resign even as the bully is rewarded and promoted. Surveys in the UK, Canada, Australia, Ireland, and the USA indicate that physical violence in the workplace is rare, but one in five workers is exposed to verbal and emotional abuse. The direct and indirect costs - in healthcare, increased workloads, stunted creativity, staff turnover, reduced productivity, absenteeism, and corporate dysfunction - may amount to circa $40 billion in the UK and $200 billion in the United States. Only few countries - such as Sweden and the United Kingdom - have specific laws which tackle workplace violence, abuse, and bullying. Workers and employers lack education on how to recognize abuse, curb it, and effectively cope with its aftermath. Workplace bullying is exacerbated by socially-sanctioned conduct such as denial, narcissism (http://www.tipsofallsorts.com/narcissism.html), exploitation, and rampant competition. How To Handle The Bully Do not be afraid. Believe in nothing whatsoever the bully has been saying to you. A bully works best with LIES and DECEPTION. Do not succumb! You are not the problem, the bully is! Talk to your family or close friends. Let it out of your head, do not bury it inside. It is good to know that there will be people supporting you. Keep a record of what has happened, e.g. the words used, the actions taken, the frequency, venue and time. Collect proof. Your records will come in very useful when you want to prove who is the bully or when planning to take legal action. Talk to a person in high position in the company about what has been going on. If the person refuses to believe in you, talk to the local unions, or employment governing bodies for advice. You don’t drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there. — Edwin Louis Cole No one can make you feel inferior without your consent. — Eleanor Roosevelt You can get better…or you can get bitter. — Anonymous Courage is mastery of fear, not absence of fear. — Mark Twain For a list of helpful resources, visit the article link : http://www.tipsofallsorts.com/bully.html/ i>Co-authored by Sam Vaknin, Ph.D, author of the book, “Malignant Self Love - Narcissism Revisited”. Peaceful Religions?

By Jackie Wellman If you say that Christianity is a peaceful religion according to scripture then it can be said that Islam, according to scripture is peaceful. In reality, both the Koran and the Bible present a dichotomy, promoting peace and violence. They both contain quotes that are peaceful and some not so peaceful quotes. In Luke 19:27, Jesus himself says, “But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them - bring them here and kill them in front of me.” Now the popular phrase…what would Jesus do?…doesn’t sound to good, does it? The Koran also has many quotes like 2:190, “The believer is called upon to fight in the way of God with those that fight with you…but aggress not. God loves not the aggressors.” The point of using quotes is to show that using quotes is pointless. They can be twisted around and interpreted in a multitude of ways. Organized religion and now, politics, are both guilty of using propaganda, containing quotes from the Bible or whatever text is appropriate, trying to influence the reader. Fundamentalists are guilty of using religious texts and incorrectly interpreting them to arrive at the, “I am right, therefore you are wrong” mentality. This mentality can be dangerous; it can led to extremism. Extremists do not represent God but their own agenda. There have been countless cases of religious extremists justifying killing others by following quotes of scripture or I should say, their misguided interpretations of quotes of scripture. Islam and Christianity have dark pasts (and in some cases, dark presents) because man got involved in interpreting the scriptures. Islam is no crueler than Christianity. The “Golden Rule” is the key, not the Koran, the Bible, or any other organized religion’s text. Some form of Christianity’s Golden Rule is present in almost every religion. All religions preach peace but do the followers practice peaceful beliefs? Las Vegas Weddings at Caesars Palace

By Rebecca Johnson Caesars Palace is one of the older, more established hotels in Las Vegas. Around since the 1960s, the hotel has undergone several renovations and expansions over the years. Although it is one of the older hotels on the Las Vegas Strip, this Roman themed hotel is no less elegant and amenity filled than some of the newer hotels and resorts. Among the amenities offered at Caesars Palace are some really fantastic wedding venues. Caesars Palace offers six different locations for weddings within their property. Three of these sites are wedding chapels. The largest chapel, the Classico, features stained glass windows, chandeliers, and floral arrangements. The Romano chapel, the smallest of the chapels, has a Roman flair to it and features large Roman columns. And the Tuscana chapel was designed to recreate the warmth and charm of Old World Tuscany. The other three wedding sites offered at Caesars Palace are all outdoor venues. The largest, the La Belle Luce Court, is an outdoor plaza with views of the Las Vegas Strip that can accommodate up to 230. The other two venues feature gardens and bench seating. The Intimate Garden seats up to 150 and the Terrazza Garden includes a pond and a fountain and has room for up to 114 guests. Caesar Palace offers some wonderful, traditional wedding packages for all of these locations as well as many reception options. They also offer many great options that you can add on to your wedding packages. Live musicians such as a violinist, harpist, string trio or quartet, guitarist, pianist, or soloist are just one of the extra package options available. This is a really great amenity because many Las Vegas wedding locations only offer pre recorded music. Other package options they offer include Roman character actors such as Caesar and Cleopatra and web broadcasting of your ceremony over the internet. The web broadcasting is a particularly great option if you have many out of town friends and family members that wont be able to attend your nuptials. They will still be able to feel they are a part of your big day by watching your wedding live on the internet as it occurs. Caesars Palace also has a variety of special ceremonies. If you are looking for something more than the usual quick Las Vegas ceremony for your wedding, they offer Mazel Tov, Rose, Unity Candle, Family Unity, Spanish, French, Lasso, Arras, and Broom ceremonies to choose from as well. So although Caesars Palace is one of the older resorts on the Las Vegas Strip, it still has a lot to offer couples who would like to wed in Las Vegas. Whether you want an elegant chapel wedding or an outdoor garden affair, Caesars Palace offers many great choices and packages for your big day. How to Lose Lower Abdominal Fat - Do All the Crunches Really Help?

By Tom Gifford A lot of people want to know how to lose lower abdominal fat. The most common thought on the subject is “I am going to do tons of lower ab exercises and hope that it works.” Want to know a little secret? Doing lots of lower abdominal exercises will do next to nothing to help you lose lower abdominal fat. If you really want to know how to lose lower abdominal fat, you should understand a very important concept. It is called “spot reduction”. Spot reduction is the myth that if you want to lose fat in a certain area, you do it by overworking the muscle right underneath it. For example, if someone wants to lose lower abdominal fat, the should do lots of lower ab exercises to get that result. Spot reduction is just not possible! When you gain fat, it does not all go into one specific area. Instead, you gain fat in proportion all over your body. If you want to lose fat, it will happen in the same way. Just like you cannot gain fat in a specific area of your body, you cannot lose it in one specific area either. Read that one again! It is a very important concept for you to understand if you are really trying to lose lower abdominal fat. The real answer is to lose all around body fat. You can do this by a combination of good food choices, resistance training, and a specific type of cardio called interval training. When you are doing the right combination of the above, you can easily lose fat. If you keep it up, you can lose fat permanently as well. The main thing to remember is that you should not try to focus on just “one thing” to lose lower abdominal fat. That means don’t try to just do lots of lower abdominal exercises. Or, don’t try to just change your diet, or just try resistance training, or just do interval training. You need to take a synergistic approach of the three things I mentioned above if you really want to know how to lose lower abdominal fat. Once your body fat is lower enough, you can start to do lots of those abdominal exercises to develop some muscle definition. But, you are only going to get a low percentage of total body fat by doing the combination mentioned above. So in conclusion, don’t try the traditional ways to lose lower abdominal fat. You need to put your body in a total fat burning state. If you do the right combination of good food choices, resistance training, and interval training, you will start to see yourself losing total body fat. Remember to be persistent and work hard. You can be successful if you really want it bad enough =)Want to Reprint this Article on How to Lose Lower Abdominal Fat? Do Not Eat That Blue Macaroni!

By Terry Price Are you looking for something unique and fun to do when it comes to making beaded necklaces? Have you ever considered making a Native American necklace out of noodles? Here are the materials that you will need: food coloring, rubbing alcohol, macaroni noodles, a Ziploc baggie or bowls, and yarn. It is important to give yourself lots of time to make this necklace as it takes a bit of time for the macaroni to dry. Remember also that will take hours for the noodles to reach the desired color, and could take as long as 24 hours. And children, if you are considering this is a project on your own, it is important to have an adult help you. To begin with, you want to color the noodles blue and red. Keep one baggie or bowl aside for each color. Put the noodles in the container and pour in rubbing alcohol until they are all covered. For each color desired, add a generous amount of one color of food coloring to each bowl or bag. Set them aside for several hours until they achieve the desired color you would like. Remember that they may have to soak longer for more brilliant colors. When they have reached the color you would like, take them out and lay them on paper towels to dry. Now you are ready to make Native American beaded necklaces! The next step is to cut lengths of string for bracelets, and clips, rings, or necklaces depending on what you would like. Start out by tying the noodles to the end of the piece of yarn to get you started, and then string the other noodles on as well. Remember to be creative and to make different color patterns. Once you’re done, tie the ends of the string together. Remember that you can use a paintbrush and acrylic paints to make your beaded necklace, and even paint small designs on your noodles. There you have it, making beaded necklaces has never been so much fun! Friends

By Kristy Annely None of us will survive in todays world without the help of our friends. They are the most important things in our lives, next to our family. There are many different types of friends that impact our daily lives. Whether they are your best friends whom you have known since childhood, or recent acquaintances you have just met, they will play a part in your everyday life. Regardless of how old you are, the importance of having friends is self-evident. Those who have friends are generally healthier, and far more adjusted than those with no friends to relate with. When growing up, the importance of having friends is far more obvious than in adult life. Having friends will teach you how to interact with other people, as well as give you interpersonal skills that are important in becoming a successful individual as an adult. Growing up isolated from interaction with others in your age group will severely damage your ability to live a normal life. This is the main argument against home schooling children versus allowing them to attend regular school. Critiques of home schooling argue that preventing them from interacting with schoolmates will hinder their abilities to make friends. Having a friend to talk to during bad times is essential for everyone. Sometimes having someone to talk to about your problem is the necessary therapeutic presence that you need to help you feel better. Most people will agree that the most important source of sanity they have is their friends. If you have found that one person you can call your best friend, someone who will help you with anything without asking questions, and someone who will be there for you anytime anywhere, you are a very lucky person. People spend a lifetime looking for a best friend, yet some never find that person. Others are lucky enough to experience that once in a lifetime bond you will only feel with a best friend. Paralegal Resumes

By Kent Pinkerton A well written paralegal resume represents the knowledge, experience and abilities of a paralegal. An entry level paralegal should give importance to the qualification part while preparing a resume. An experienced paralegal can at the same time highlight experience and achievements. Prepare different resumes for various paralegal positions. Prepare both chronological and functional resumes to emphasize different accomplishments. In a paralegal resume, the first step is to prepare a list of skills. The list can include assignments done in the paralegal classes. A paralegal can also list the responsibilities and other details about the internship. The next step is to write down previous work experience. Work experience also includes legal as well as non legal work experience. The important part of a paralegal resume is the summary or qualification part which is an overview of a paralegal?s educational background. If a paralegal has any legal experience, it should be specified in the first line of the summary part. Write down the most recent education first and then the earlier education. If a paralegal has completed any advanced paralegal education program, it can also be included in the education part. The summary part must include the strengths, other work experience and computer skills. A paralegal can also specify research or analytical skills and advanced skills in the summary part. Paralegal resumes in functional format can include two or three headings. The headings can be legal, office management, organization skills, information management, writing skills and interpersonal skills. The details can be specified under these functional headings. Internship and skills, defense interviews, draft pleadings, analyzed court rules and reviewed case files can be included under legal skills. In functional format, write down the work experience at the end. It can include job title, employer and date. There are some general points to be noted while preparing a paralegal resume. Your name should be in bold format and larger than the address. Generally 12 point type letter size is used in a paralegal resume. Accomplishments and achievements can be emphasized using bullet format. Paralegal provides detailed information on Paralegal, Paralegal Jobs, Paralegal Schools, Paralegal Training and more. Your Secret Marketing Weapon

By Kelly O’Brien As a professional service provider, youre paid for what you know. People come to your firm for the expertise you offer, first and foremost. Did you also realize that this is also your secret marketing weapon? By sharing what you know, you actually attract people to you and build their confidence in you as the right solution for their problem. Now many professionals are afraid to give away trade secrets or expertise for free, but thats not what Im talking about. This is about putting content regularly out into the marketplace that is of enough value that prospects will automatically think of you when they have a need. It seems paradoxical the more you give away, the more people are willing to pay for your services but its true. This exact approach has worked quickly and effectively for me for years. The key is that its got to be good and of high relevance to your target audience. This builds peoples confidence that you consistently know your stuff and that you can be counted on for long-term value. People soon realize that if youre willing to give away such valuable expertise, think how great the solutions they pay for will be! So how do you share your expertise with your target audience? Through writing and speaking. And it starts with being able to get your core ideas down on paper in a way that catches your audiences attention and compels them to action. If the idea of writing an article or giving a speech feels overwhelming, stay with me. Im going to show you how easy it can be if you follow a basic formula that works every time. Formula for Success Weve all stared at a blank page, at a loss for words or ideasand wondered how in the world to write the article, proposal, report or presentation thats due soonwith the deadline looming and no inspiration in sight. Its the worst feeling and brings out the procrastinator in all of us. Next time youd rather clean out your desk than force yourself to sit down and write something, try this easy approach: 1) Brainstorm a short list of things that your clients struggle with. What problems drive them to you? Why are they willing to pay good money for your services. Remember, its not about you — its about them, their pain, and their needs. This is now your list of topics for articles and talks. 2) Pick one topic and answer the following questions: Whats the problem? Whats the lost opportunity? Why is this important to address? What will happen if its ignored? Whats your solution? What tips do you have for implementing your solution? What example can you use to illustrate your point? 3) Write your answers to these questions and dont worry about how it flows or even that youre using good grammar. Just get your ideas on paper (or into the computer). Notice that by now, you have at least a page written. Pat yourself on the back and keep going. 4) Go back and clean up what youve written, add a catchy title and some headlines to break up the text, keep your paragraphs short, add some bullets or numbers to guide the eye. Maybe add references or a diagram. Step back and review what youve done. By now, youve got an article! 5) Ask a couple of trusted colleagues, clients or friends for feedback on your draft really do this because it helps! Plus, its a great confidence booster and low-risk way to share your writing with a small audience first. 6) Put your new article on your website, offer to send it as follow up when networking, send it to current clients, use it as the basis for getting booked for talks (more on how to in a future newsletter)whatever you do, dont let it languish. USE it as a way of sharing your expertise. For more tips on how to share your expertise through writing, keep reading… Taking a page from Twyla Tharps new book, The Creative Habit, this prolific dancer and choreographer shares her tips for moving from procrastination to creativity, regularly and with ease. Apply these ideas to your writing and notice the difference 1) Set up a creative environment thats habit forming. Creativity doesnt just happen, its a disciplined skill that can be learned. Creativity is not a mystical, elusive gift thats only accessible to artists. Everyone can develop it. Set up the right conditions and it eventually kicks-in. For me, its the act of daily planning that clears my mind to make room for ideas to flow. For you, it might be puttering in your garden or going for a walk. Whatever it is, do it daily and be disciplined about it. 2) Use an organizational system for your ideas. Over the course of a month, I run into articles, quotes, websites, books, photos, experiences, and conversationsall of which inspire me for an upcoming article or talk. I capture them in folders, labeled by theme or big idea. When Im ready to start writing, I draw on this collection of resources to inspire and guide my thinking. Twyla Tharp uses a box for each new project. You might find a binder the best catchall. Whatever works for you, the mere act of labeling and filling your container demonstrates your commitment to the idea. 3) Scratch. Scratching is about seeking inspiration to fill your container. I scratch when I flip through copies of Fast Company and Inc. Magazine or browsing in my favorite bookstore (where I found Tharps book!). I scratch while networking with other professionals and ask what theyre working on or stuck on in their business. This is about where you get your ideasits kind of primal, and you never know whatll inspire you. 4) Beware of these deadly mistakes: relying too much on others, waiting for or expecting perfection, overthinking, feeling obligated to finish what youve started, and working with the wrong materials. Any one of them will undermine your best efforts. If youre stuck, look at each of these to see if theyre holding you back. 5) Find your spine. Its your one strong idea, the toehold that gets you started. The spine of this e-newsletter, for example, is that writing is a core competency of effective marketing. Related to it is the inspiration I found in Twylas book. 6) Master your skill. You have to master the underlying skills of your creative domain, then build your creativity on the solid foundation of those skills. You cant write or speak effectively about your chosen profession, if you havent mastered what you bring to the table to begin with. 7) Know the difference between a rut and a block. Writers block is when youve shut down and your tank is empty. In that case, you just need to do something anything to change the patterns in your brain (walk away, sing, get outdoors, do some yoga, cuddle with your petyou get the idea). A rut is more like a false start. This happens when youre using a bad idea, its bad timing, or youre sticking with old methods that dont work. Get out of a rut by questioning everything except your ability to get out of it. 8) Fail often privately. This includes drafts that get thrown away, early versions that you share with trusted colleagues, testing your message while networking (whats your impression of?). Then figure out why youre failing (is it the idea? your timing? a matter of skill? judgement? nerve?) and address it before going public. 9) Believe in the long haul. Sharing your expertise through writing wont be easy over night. Itll take discipline to create a habit that eventually builds the skill. Believe me, its well worth it. Ive found that committing publicly (i.e., to subscribers of this e-newsletter, due out on the first Wednesday of each month) creates the right kind of pressure to motivate me into taking a disciplined approach to writing. Writing one good piece per month is doable and frequent enough that your audience wont forget you. Before you know it, youll have a solid repertoire of articles and speeches to draw from in your marketing arsenal. 2003 TurningPointe Marketing, Inc. All rights reserved. Staying In Shape

By Alvah Parker Why Lawyers Should Eat Bananas by Simon Tupman is a book that caught my eye both because of its unusual title and because I coach lawyers who are growing their practices. The book cover says it gives Inspirational Ideas for Lawyers Wanting More Out of Life Much of what Mr. Tupman writes about is appropriate career advice for anyone, lawyer, business person or manager . He is an advocate of Working smarter not harder and so am I. I really liked his list of attributes for smart workers and number 8 on the list particularly appealed to me because it underscores much of what I say to my clients. Number 8 says that smart workers stay in S.H.A.P.E.” Each letter of course stands for an element that he believes is vital in order to stay marketable. Skills Today all workers have a responsibility to keep their skills up to date. If you are waiting for someone else to pay for your training you may wait yourself into obsolescence. If you are in business, someone else will take away your business if you let your skills stagnate. If you work for someone else, your employer may find that another employee who has more advanced skills can do your job better or faster. In my AT&T days the Internet was just coming into general use. Those people who could support it technically were the ones whose jobs were more secure. Health It is something you may take for granted but you need to be proactive about your health. Proper diet, enough sleep, and exercise all help you to have the energy you need to do your job. Often my clients will say to me that they just dont have time to exercise or have a well-balanced meal. They say they have other priorities. I ask all my clients to make themselves their number one priority. You cant be good to others (clients, family, co-workers, friends etc.) unless you are good to yourself. Attitude How do you approach a problem or something new? If you believe you cant do something, you wont be able to. As a sales manager I found it was so much easier to work with sales executives who were proactive and saw lots of possibilities rather than the ones who had a negative attitude and whined about their problems. People with positive attitudes attract success. Persistence Life has its ups and downs. Everyone will have the experience of trying something that doesnt work out as planned. What do you do when this happens? Do you quit or do you use the failure to learn and grow? Thomas Alva Edison said, Results! Why, man, I have gotten a lot of results. I know several thousand things that won’t work. Rather than being upset by failure regard it as just one more data point on the road to success. Enthusiasm What is it that keeps you working at your job, business or job search? Somewhere in your mind you must have a vision of what you want to achieve that really excites you. Having enthusiasm for the end state (your vision) will get you through the toughest days. As you can see the critical element here is knowing yourself. Look at each of the 5 elements and ask yourself how you stack up. Is there something that is holding you back? Take action! 1. Identify the area that you would like to improve. 2.
